People say "Pokemon is a kids game" in order to justify the newer games' lack of difficulty and hand-holding, but they fail to realize that Pokemon was always primarily for kids. The "Pokemon is a kids game" argument is hands down the dumbest argument ever. I also dont buy the "what about the kids" arguement. I definitely wanted to battle the crazed gmaxes in some way other than what they chose.
I just feel that telling the kids to scram IS something logical for the adults to do, it just makes for a really lame game experience. Or you arrive at the next gym to find GMAX mons going wild in town, in the Wild Area just outside town, whatever, and the adults getting their asses handed to them, making it necessary (!!) that you, the schoolchild, throw yourself into the fight to save them. Maybe you’re getting ready and you’ve just changed into your challenger uniform when a mon goes rogue inside and you have little choice to help the gym leader because, well, the building is about to get toppled if you don’t. I found it more realistic than previous gens that the adults WOULD tell you and Hop, as actual children (it seems like we’re back to being about nine or ten) to just keep plugging at your own activities and let adults handle the theoretically actually dangerous shit going down.īUT it’s true that this ‘dangerous shit’ was a missed opportunity, so it would have been cool if you seem to proceed on toward the gym challenge, but of course it ends up not working out. I feel like a compromise was left out in the cold.
